Speech therapy for children under 15

At Humanity Health Kids, our aim is to help children engage in meaningful interactions through effective speech therapy, so they can express themselves clearly and confidently. Our holistic approach means every child has the opportunity to work towards their language and communication goals.

Humanity Health Kids’ NDIS speech therapists support the development of effective communication and social skills. Our speech pathologists for kids create personalised and fun therapy sessions, as well as practical programs for families to use at home to support the growth of language and social skills.
If your child is 15 or older please contact our team at Humanity Allied Health.

Our speech therapists work alongside your child's whole care team

Our speech therapists for kids focus on tailored support that matches each child’s specific needs. We take time to understand each child’s challenges and their environment, then build an evidence based therapy plan around their current abilities and what motivates them, to help grow meaningful language and communication skills.

We aim to create a fun, supportive and engaging space where children feel comfortable and excited to learn. Through evidence based methods and personalised therapy plans, our NDIS/Thriving Kids speech therapy for kids helps address a range of speech and language challenges, including articulation difficulties, language delays and social communication disorders.

Individual speech therapy, tailored to your child

Our speech pathologists carry out comprehensive evaluations to understand your child’s unique needs and challenges. This allows us to create an individualised therapy plan that focuses on what your child specifically needs.

We provide one on one speech therapy for children, focusing on personalised goals and strategies that support effective communication skills. Our kids speech therapy is designed to be engaging and fun, motivating children to take part. Our services align with the NDIS price guide, so there are no additional gap fees for our clients.

What our speech pathologists/
speech therapists help your child with

Articulation

Articulation is about how speech sounds are made. This includes how your child moves their lips, tongue and jaw to form clear sounds and words.

Phonology

Phonology is about the patterns and rules children use to organise speech sounds. It looks at how sounds work together, rather than how each sound is physically made.

Stuttering

Fluency is about the flow of speech. This includes stuttering, where speech may be interrupted by repeated sounds, pauses or extended sounds.

Voice disorders

Voice disorders relate to how a child’s voice sounds. This can include changes in pitch, volume or quality, such as a voice that sounds hoarse, breathy or strained.

Understanding

Receptive language is about how well a child understands language. This includes following instructions, understanding questions and making sense of what others say.

Speaking

Expressive language is about how a child uses words and sentences to communicate. This includes sharing ideas, asking questions and putting thoughts into words.

Pragmatics

Pragmatics is about how a child uses language in social situations. This includes taking turns in conversation, understanding body language and adjusting how they speak depending on who they’re talking to.

Reading comprehension

Reading comprehension is about how well a child understands what they read. This includes making sense of the words, following the story and picking up on meaning beyond the words on the page.

Writing

Writing is about how a child puts thoughts into words on paper. This includes forming sentences, organising ideas and using language clearly in written form.

Phonological awareness

Phonological awareness is about hearing and playing with the sounds in words. This includes recognising rhymes, breaking words into syllables and identifying individual sounds.

Difficulties with eating, drinking, or swallowing

Speech pathologists can support children with chewing, managing textures or coordinating swallowing safely, alongside their communication skills.

Social communication abilities

Therapists show your child how to connect with others. This includes starting conversations, sharing interests and understanding social cues like tone and facial expressions.

Non-verbal children: Alternative ways to communicate for children who don't use speech

Some children communicate best through methods other than spoken words. This is known as alternative and augmentative communication, or AAC. Our speech pathologists work with children to find communication methods that suit their individual needs and abilities.

AAC can include simple tools like picture boards and communication cards, or more advanced options such as speech generating devices and apps on a tablet. For example, a child who finds spoken words difficult might use a picture board to point to what they want to say, or an app that turns selected symbols into spoken words. The goal is to give every child a way to express themselves, connect with others and take part in everyday life.

Speech Therapy for non verbal children

Assisting children with conditions like autism, Down syndrome, or cerebral palsy

Some children have communication differences linked to a diagnosis such as autism, Down syndrome or cerebral palsy. Our speech pathologists work with these children to support the specific communication needs that can come with each condition, alongside broader input from other members of the care team where needed.

For example, a child with autism may benefit from support with social communication and understanding non-verbal cues like facial expressions and tone of voice. A child with Down syndrome may work on clarity of speech sounds and building vocabulary, while a child with cerebral palsy might need support with the physical coordination involved in producing speech, or with using alternative communication tools if speaking is difficult.

At Humanity Health Kids therapy is shaped around each child’s individual needs and strengths, rather than a one size fits all approach based on diagnosis alone.

Speech therapy vs speech pathology: what's the difference?

In Australia, speech pathology is the correct professional and clinical term. Speech pathologists are university trained and registered with Speech Pathology Australia.

They work with communication, speech, language, voice and swallowing difficulties across all ages. Speech therapy is the term many families use in everyday conversation.

It refers to the actual sessions and support a speech pathologist provides. Both terms describe the same profession and the same care, just from two different perspectives.
